SECO

From traditional production lines to autonomous manufacturing with mobile manipulators for operational excellence.

Seco

The Problem

Inefficiencies in Traditional Production Lines

Seco Tools, part of Sandvik Machining Solutions, identified hidden waste in its existing production setup and manufacturing processes (see right).

Expanding the workforce was not an option for Seco, but retaining the existing workforce entirely was. In order to further increase competitiveness, the transition from the traditional manufacturing concept to autonomous production was initiated.

The Solution

Autonomous Production with Machine Tending

Through networked mobile manipulators and machining centers, Seco succeeded in establishing autonomous manufacturing in which machines from various manufacturers and processes automatically exchange order and status information with mobERT® and exchange them with each other (Closed Loop).

mobERT® autonomously transports materials and semi-finished products between storage areas and machines, and loads and unloads them for maximum process efficiency.
